Singapore Airlines Business Class: B777-300ER Business Class FRA-SIN

Beautiful and elegant features all around, together with its cozy room design, Villa Kennedy Rocco Forte is unique to other hotels in the Frankfurt City area. It is just a pity that it won’t be another viable accommodation option in the near future.

After a great 5 days in Frankfurt, it was time to head back to Singapore, this time trying out the 2013 J Seat, also on the B777-300ER.

One thing that I did not mentioned in my previous post was that I needed to take an ART Test minimum 48 hours before my flight, in which I went to Coronatest Frankfurt at the Hauptbahnhof, which was really convenient! Just a short 2 minutes walk from the tram stop. What’s more, it was free-of-charge even for foreign passport holders, as long as you make an appointment beforehand and state your hotel address.

Heading to the airport from Villa Kennedy Rocco Forte was straightfoward, taking the same tram just a short 2-3 minutes walk from the hotel, to the Hauptbahnhof. From there, there is a straight train down to Frankfurt Airport.

Seat Selection

Check-in was at the Departure Terminal 2, and the Singapore Airlines Check-In Counters were quite a distance away from the train station, so do factor some time in if you are planning to check-in at the last hour.

On the way, you will pass by some traditional flight signboards, which brought about a bit of nostalgia to my travels when I was a teenager.

The queue was relatively short for Business Class passengers, and other than a passenger in front which took longer than usual due to some documentation issues, the check-in process was completed in about 10 minutes. I was then invited to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge, which was a bit surprising as I thought it would be the Lufthansa Business Lounge.

Seat Features and Amenities

The Singapore Airlines 2013 J seat has storage compartments beside the handrest (big enough to put bottles and a small amenities bag), and beside the In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) Screen (good for your handphone and passport). If you manage to snag the bulkhead seat, there is also a large space below the IFE screen to put your hand-carry luggage below. Overall, not super lots of space, but decent enough.

Beside the handrests are the seat controls and the IFE Controller screen, and where you plug your headphones in. Contrary to multiple reviews, I did not have issues with hitting the buttons, maybe because I don’t really use handrests that much? The buttons are intuitive to use and simple enough.

Beside both sides of the IFE screen are a small mirror and coat hanger. I also find the lights and electrical points to be located intuitively, allowing comfort and convenience.

In the storage compartment beside the handrest, you will find a care kit, headphone covers and noise-cancelling headphones. They are from Bang and Olufsen, which provides great noise-cancellation and sound quality, but for some reason it doesn’t fit my ears nicely and I have to take them off periodically to ease the discomfort. Hmmm.

The crew also came by to distribute socks and slippers, which is nice especially on a long-haul flight.

In-Flight Entertainment

It was interesting to note that this flight offers Live TV! As a sports enthusiast, I tuned in to Sport24 for most of the flight. Thumbs up!

My alternative form of entertainment would of course be the magnificent view from my seat window, as we flew past the Swiss Alps. Breathtaking view!

Bathroom and Sleep Experience

The bathroom size was decent enough, with well-stocked amenities from Penhaligon’s (of the Quercus range). It is one of my favourite brand, what is your favourite? Leave your comments below.

In terms of sleep experience, this version is one of my most favourite lie-flat beds, contrary to popular opinion. I really liked the spaciousness of this lie-flat bed, and I can freely move around during my sleep. I slept really well on this bed (which is rare for me!).

I did not take pictures of this, but you can see the below picture from Frequent Miler:

Wi-Fi

Singapore Airlines has one of the fastest and most stable Wi-Fi connections onboard, as my login experience was similar to my previous flight on First Class.

Food

First up, dinner! For this flight, I opted to try the in-flight menu instead of pre-ordering from the Book The Cook menu. The food quality was impeccable, with Roasted Suckling Pork Saddle cook to the perfect texture and crispiness. The rosti also complemented the Roasted Pork perfectly.

Of course, I had to try the must-order post-sleep snack on Singapore Airlines: Tom Yum Noodles! Thoroughly satisfied my cravings.

Breakfast wise, I felt a tad disappointed with the Braised Ee Fu noodles, definitely a drop in the usual high quality offerings from Singapore Airlines!

Meanwhile, I was treated to a nice sunrise as we began to land. Home sweet home!

Crew Service

Service was decent as per Singapore Airlines’ high standards, but I definitely felt less personalized compared to my previous First Class flight experience. You definitely get what you paid for!

That said, crew response was quite good and I did not have a bad experience on this flight.

Conclusion

Overall, I had a great 13-hour flight onboard Singapore Airlines, and provided a wonderful conclusion to my maiden solo trip experience! It was definitely encouraging and kickstarted my future planning for more solo travelling. Fly on!
